What makes a great Astrophoto?

Even though an astrophotographer needs to work with the same object there are many ways to play around with it. By working with different techniques, incorporating your surroundings and adjusting to the light, you can create stunning night sky images. While shooting star photos alone can result in amazing photos, it can be fun to contrast it with objects or subjects that can also be included in the image. An Aurora photo can truly come to its right if it is contrasted with great mountains, a snowy forest or a small cabin. The Milkyway seen with the savanna as the foreground can bring forth the great feeling of adventure that is prevalent on both Earth and in space. There is no right or wrong way to compose your astrophotos but there are many interesting ways to go about it, as you will see in the astrophotography feed!

Astrophotography Technique

When it comes to astrophotography you need to take a lot of things into consideration before you can snap your first picture. You will need to take all of the factors that might complicate your astrophotography process into consideration. The fact that the object you want to shoot is very far away forces you to be able to zoom and enhance the image. You will come a long way with the right equipment but you should also consider locating yourself to higher altitudes, somewhere that the light pollution will not interfere with your shot. Another thing to consider is the shutter speed since the light that comes from the stars are not all that strong. Depending on whether you wish to shoot still images of the stars or not, you will need to deal with the earth’s rotation. You can create extraordinary images where it looks like the stars are spinning, creating lines on the black canvas of the universe or still photos where it is as if you are seeing the night sky with your own eyes. Here you would also like to consider the width of your lens and 12mm is a common choice for the astrophotographer. However, since there are a lot of things to consider, we suggest that you do some research before diving into the serene world of astrophotography.
